Product Description

True to the post-war optimism of the 1951 Festival of Britain, this decade saw much bolder florals, with many designs like this one featuring typically English flowers such as blue harebells, daffodils and snowdrops. Festival is decorated with these fine sprays on a pale blue background. Rich gold accents make this an instant classic!

A beautiful cake stand for afternoon tea

Review Date: August 20, 2010
Reviewer: joeflies, San Francisco, CA USA
The last time I was in England, I saw this tea set and had a lot of trouble buying all the pieces. No department store had all the pieces, so I ended up buying a piece here and there and came home with an incomplete set.

I want a complete set and I don't know when I'll be in England again. But could I buy pieces of china online and not worry about postal damage? I bought on Amazon and all my worries are gone. The box arrived double boxed - it was packaged in a box, and packaged again in an outer box. Needless to say, it arrived in perfect condition and ready for a round of tea with friends.

The picture doesn't do justice to how beautiful the artwork is. It is a beautiful cake stand, a gorgeous shade of blue with detailed accents on the dish. Royal Albert knows what they're doing and I'm thoroughly satisfied with my purchase.

One thing that deserves explanation - The "100 Years of Royal Albert" is actually the name of a series of different patterns, with each decade having a different design. For instance, this dish that I purchased is the "1950" series, and I bought matching tea pot, cups, plates and cake stand from the same 1950 series. I wish I understood this before I started shopping around, because it's not so obvious that you need to add the year when searching so that you can find the matching pieces.

The second thing that deserves explanation about this collection - there are two different cup+plate choices. One is a 3 piece set, which includes a cup, saucer and a small plate for desert. The other is a 2 piece set, which includes the cup and a single plate that combines a small plate and saucer in one dish. The latter is slightly cheaper, and it's more for serving tea when there isn't a table available to set your tea down while having a bite to eat.

It was a hard decision to make, but I did choose to go with the cup + saucer + small plate combo, and now that I have it, I don't regret it one bit.
